Hilton Head Island BeachPublic Beach Access: All of the beach is public, from the ocean to the high water mark. Access to the beach, however, is often private. The town of Hilton Head Island provides seven beach accesses: Alder Lane Beach Access, off South Forest Beach Drive; Coligny Beach Park, off Coligny Circle; Driessen Beach Park, at the end of Bradley Beach Road; Fish Haul Park, at the end of Beach City Road; Burkes Beach Access, at the end of Burkes Beach Road; Folly Field Beach Park and Islander Beach Park, off Folly Field Road.

Parking and Facilities: There are 22 metered spaces at Alder Lane; 51 metered spaces at Folly Field and 29 metered spaces at Coligny and 13 metered spaces at Burkes Beach Road. The parking fee is $0.25 for each fifteen minutes. Additionally, there are 345 spaces at Coligny Beach Park and 207 spaces at Driesen Beach Park for long-term parking. The fee is a Quarter for each thirty minutes during the week. A flat $4 fee is charged at the Coligny Parking lot on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. You may come and go all day with your paid receipt. Parking spaces at Islanders Beach Park are ALWAYS reserved for annual beach passes. Parking at Coligny and Driessen Beach Parks for annual beach passes is reserved from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Parking is free at Fish Haul Park. Handicap parking is available at no fee at all beach parks. Parking in residential areas marked NO PARKING - TOW AWAY is by permit only. Unpermitted vehicles are subject to fines and/or towing. Restrooms, changing areas, sand showers and vending machines are available at the beach parks.


Beach Patrol Locations: Below, listed from north to south, are areas where Beach Patrol can generally be found. 
Area 1: Westin Resort, Barony Beach Club, Islanders Beach Park, Island Club, Surf Watch, Folly Field Beach Park, Hilton Head Beach & Tennis Resort, Driessen Beach Park
Area 2: Palmetto Dunes House, Marriott Resort, Villamare, Disney Resort, Captain's Walk, Hilton Resort, Hampton Place
Area 3: Windsor Court, Windsor Place, Barrington, Crowne Plaza, Sea Crest, Breakers, Coligny Beach, Holiday Inn, Ocean One, Shorewood, Sea Side Villas
Area 4: Adventure Inn, Grande Ocean, Alder Lane, Sea Pines Beach Club, Monarch



Beach Prohibitions: The following are prohibited on all beaches:

  • Possession or consumption of alcohol
  • Glass (bottles, containers, etc.)
  • Littering
  • Indecent exposure or nudity
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Disturbing the peace
  • Unauthorized vehicles
  • Fires and fireworks
  • Shark fishing
  • Removal, harming, or harassment of any live beach fauna (seaturtles, sand dollars, etc.)
  • Removal, alteration, or damage to dunes, sea oats, or other dune flora
  • Operation, launching, or anchoring of unauthorized motorized watercraft
  • Unauthorized commercial activity
  • Sleeping on the beach between midnight and 6 A.M.
  • Unauthorized wearing of lifeguard emblems, insignias, etc.
  • Solicitation or distribution of handouts
  • Kites not under manual control
  • Stunt kites (restricted times through September 30)
  • Sand-sailing (restricted times)
  • Parasailing


Additional Prohibitions in Designated Swimming Areas (Between Sunrise and Sunset, April 1- September 30):
  • Fishing or surfcasting 
  • Surfboards, boogie boards, etc. 
  • Frisbee or other team sports involving a ball 
  • Games with metal components 


Animals are not permitted between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day.  Animals must be on a leash between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., Tuesday after Labor Day through September 30.  Animals must be on leash or under positive voice control at all other times.  Persons in control of animals on the beach are required to remove and property dispose of the animal's excrement.
